#33: Key To The Metaverse
Since the dawn of the internet, certain pieces of technology have become mainstay devices. First it was the personal computer, then cell phones with limited internet access to smartphones that aid us in our daily lives. But now with advances like generative AI and the metaverse, will there be a new third device that will assist in these properties? We sit down with Linda Ricci, Emerging Technology Strategist about this potential device for a new age. We also discuss the virtual space and what it means to have that “other self” within a metaverse space.

#32: Location-based XR Entertainment
Virtual reality is all about immersion. Many VR experiences take a player or viewer into a new space, without leaving the confines of your own domicile. And while there are multiplayer games, such experiences of putting on a headset requires your own solitary environment. However, a company called The Park Playground is bringing that experience to different players at the same time in the same space. Up to 8 players can engage and interact with a variety of games and experiences through location-based VR. Today we talk to Peter Vindevogel, CEO of The Park Playground to discuss the power of location-based VR experiences and where it could go moving forward.

#26 - Making Movie Magic With Virtual Production
Live From ISE 2023, It’s XR StarDo not adjust your set. Despite XR Star being a show all about extended reality and the ways that we can use the virtual space for AV, we have set up in the physical world for an in-person interview. That’s because we are at Integrated Systems Europe 2023, returning to Barcelona for the second time. We are joined by Sebasitan Leske, Product Marketing Manage for Broadcast & Cinematography for Sony.
Virtual production has been making waves within cinema, weaving together computer-generated graphics and content to a stage in real-time. Rather than using a traditional chroma keyed background to manage these features in post-production, virtual productions add a layer of authenticity for actors within the stage itself. We discuss how virtual productions are changing the scope of media and how extended reality fits into that equation.

#10 - XR & the Future of Crypto
Both interoperability and decentralisation of ownership are huge challenges when it comes to the metaverse, not just from a computational and networking perspective, but also from a business and economic viewpoint.
The global economy is largely successful because of openness, trade, and the flow of people and data from one ecosystem to another, and this should be the model for the metaverse economy too. People will require ways to move skins (aka avatars), assets (like NFTs) and currencies across platforms, preferably without import duties or exchange rates. Users will also need a way to view all their digital assets in one place. To manage this, new financial services, like a metaverse wallet or locked storage facilities, will be needed. New economic solutions will be created to facilitate the metaverse economy, for example, services around gifting, reselling, and trading. Degradation may be coded into virtual products, reflecting real world wear. Companies may offer premium ‘interoperable editions’ of products. Third-party services and technologies will emerge to manage metaverse assets, taxes, and disputes, reinventing the roles of investment advisors, insurance providers, brokers, and probate attorneys.
How we move money and assets in the metaverse is a huge headache - until you consider the benefits of blockchain.
Today I am thrilled to welcome VP of Strategy & Blockchain at Together Labs - Nancy Beaton. Together Labs innovates technologies that empower people worldwide to connect, create and earn in virtual worlds. She is heading up Together Labs’ metaverse blockchain strategy, and has introduced the first regulatory-approved transferable digital currency, VCOIN.

#9 - XR & the Future of Emotion Analytics
Just as web analytics have revolutionised the way businesses optimise engagement, emotion analytics will provide new dimensions of insights, especially in XR.
Today media platforms generally gather data about us through our mobile phones and PCs, but with VR and AR headsets, they have the opportunity to see through our eyes, picking up on subtle, involuntary glances or muscles reactions.
With a convergence of technologies like Brain-Computer Interface (or BCI as we might refer to it), eye-tracking, EEG’s, AI, and machine learning, the depth of data that can be captured will have a significant impact on business, design, and more moving forward.
Innerspace is a platform by Emteq Labs and innovation consultancy, Parallel, that aims to bring a hyper-personalised future to XR environments. With a visual approach to analysing emotional data pertaining to personality traits, behaviour, interactions, and stress responses, the platform uses sensors in head-mounted displays combined with machine-learning to translate emotions into valuable data for actionable insights.
To talk to us more about Innerspace and XR & the future of Emotions, I am thrilled to welcome this month’s guest, Matthew Falla, founding partner at Parallel.
